Pimlico South Councillors Supporting Mary Smith’s Foodbank

Pimlico South Councillors Liza Begum, Robert Eagleton and Jason Williams and the Leader of the Council Adam Hug delivered on one of their key election pledges in ensuring a permanent home for Mary Smith’s Foodbank.

To mark the first year anniversary of Westminster Labour’s victory in May 2022 when it took control of Westminster Council for the first time ever Leader Adam Hug officially opened the Food pantry together with the Pimlico South Councillors.

The pantry is named in tribute to Mike Smith’s mum Mary Smith who raised her family in Pimlico and supported the whole community as does her son Mike Smith who has helped and supported so many people and families over many years.

We are so proud to have delivered this permanent home in recognition of Mike’s compassionate and much needed support for the local community after so many years.

Celebrating the Coronation with residents

We were delighted to join street parties for HM the King’s Coronation earlier this month during the Bank Holiday weekend. We joined parties across the ward including Tachbrook Estate, Churchill Gardens Estate and Peabody Avenue.

Dolphin Square

We are continuing to work with residents about concerns with the landlord’s response to residents’ concerns. We have been looking into issues with works in the garden as well as complaints about repairs and the use of Article 21 notices with non-Option B residents. Our work is ongoing and we would like to hear from residents with their own concerns on pimlicosouth@gmail.com.

Lupus Street traffic Issues

We are continuing to raise residents’ concerns about increase traffic on Lupus Street and also uses of Sutherland Street by Coaches. We have asked Highways officers to look into the issues here as well as how changes by TfL to schemes on Grosvenor road and near Chelsea Bridge are impacting on increasing traffic and air quality. We’ve also raised issues with Turpentine Lane being used as a short cut by traffic and the resultant noise issues for residents.

Tachbrook Estate

Pimlico South Councillors have been speaking up for Tachbrook estate residents and lobbying Peabody on a range of issues including mould, parking and repairs. Attending a recent residents meeting with residents and Peabody management Councillors called out issues which the management had failed to address and called for a more proactive approach. Cllr Jason Williams said “I’m very concerned about the management of works and responses to residents’ concerns on Tachbrook Estate, we will continue to work hard for residents and ensure their concerns are raised and addressed. We want to hear from residents who continue to have problems or want to discuss any issue by emailing us on pimlicosouth@gmail.com.

New College for Pimlico South

Cllr Jason Williams was joined by Cllr Tim Roca, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Young People, Learning and Leisure to visit the former University Technical College site on Sutherland Street which is being converted into the ADA National College for Digital Skills. The site will house the Sixth Form College and Degree Apprenticeship programme and Cllr Williams discussed links with local community groups and the college.

Fly Tipping

We are continuing to work with Council officers to flight the blight of fly tipping, a recent example was the dumping of a fridge freezer with the doors and seals still intact by the Primary School on Ranelagh Road.
