We, the undersigned, call on Transport for London (TfL) to withdraw or amend the proposed changes to bus routes 7 and 94 under the current Oxford Street pedestrianisation scheme — and to guarantee that residents, visitors and commuters from Lancaster Gate, Bayswater and Hyde Park continue to have reliable direct bus access to central London, Oxford Street, and the West End.

What is proposed:

  • Route 7, which currently runs from East Acton to Oxford Circus, would be shortened so that it terminates at Marble Arch (Cumberland Gate) instead of continuing to Oxford Circus.
  • Route 94, which currently runs from Acton Green to Piccadilly Circus via Oxford Street, would in future terminate at Marble Arch (North Row) rather than continuing to Piccadilly Circus.
  • This means both routes would no longer travel along Oxford Street to Oxford Circus and Piccadilly — the heart of the West End.

How this will impact your journey:

  • Passengers travelling from Lancaster Gate, Bayswater and Hyde Park, who rely on routes 7 and 94, will no longer have a direct bus to central West End destinations — they will be forced to get off at Marble Arch and then change buses (for example, to route 98 or 390).
  • This adds inconvenience, extra wait time, possible overcrowding on connecting buses, and will be particularly difficult for older people, disabled passengers, people carrying shopping or with children.
  • For many, this change will cut off a direct public-transport link between Lancaster Gate, Bayswater and Hyde Park and central shopping and cultural areas on Oxford Street, Regent Street and Piccadilly.
  • This change will not just impact residents and visitors; it will also undermine the purpose of the Oxford Street programme to revitalise the high street, as many people will be unable to visit and access destinations across the West End and may instead choose to visit Westfield in Shepherd’s Bush.

We urge TfL and the Mayor to:

  • Maintain the current routing and stop-points of bus routes 7 and 94 — ensuring they continue to run to Oxford Circus and Piccadilly as they do now, or to provide alternative direct bus links from Lancaster Gate, Bayswater and Hyde Park to the West End so that visitors and residents do not have to rely on forced bus changes.
  • Commit to further meaningful consultation with residents, commuters, disability-access groups, and local businesses before implementing any changes that would reduce direct public-transport connectivity.

We believe London’s bus network should prioritise accessibility, convenience and inclusion for all. Do not cut off direct bus links from Lancaster Gate, Bayswater and Hyde Park to the West End. Keep routes 7 and 94 running in full.
