Joanna Camadoo-Rothwell, Labour’s candidate in the Vincent Square Ward by-election on Thursday 27th November, has welcomed new City Inspectors, extra CCTV cameras, more help for rough sleepers – and all for the second lowest Council Tax in the country!
Highlights from Labour Westminster’s budget, to be agreed at the Council meeting on 5th March, include:
- More City Inspectors to spearhead the fight against anti-social behaviour.
- New CCTV cameras being rolled out across Westminster, with pictures to be used in police evidence.
- An extra £1.2m to tackle rough sleeping and help people off the pavements and into safety.
- An additional £140 million into acquiring more temporary accommodation.
- An extra £1m on cost-of-living support – free school meals during school holidays, supermarket food vouchers, a hardship fund and supporting specialist advice centres.
The Council Tax rise equals just 48p a week for a Band D property, which means Westminster still has the second lowest Council Tax rate in the country.
Joanna said:
“Safety and security for Vincent Square Ward residents – whether on the streets, keeping a roof over their heads or with help for the less well-off – is at the very heart of Labour’s Budget. By careful management and finding efficiency savings, Labour is able to target money to those who need it most, while keeping a rise in Council tax to the bare minimum. We are keeping bills down for those who can least afford it.”
This by-election has been caused by the sad death of Councillor Gillian Arrindell, the first Labour Councillor for Vincent Square Ward, who was elected in May 2022.
Joanna is continuing Gillian’s fine example of taking up residents’ concerns and getting things done for the local community. She lives locally and knows how to get things sorted for local people. Vincent Square Ward needs a strong voice for local people. If you vote for her, she won’t let you down.
