Thank you to all those Vincent Square Ward residents who have been recycling their food waste!
The Council’s food waste recycling service has been a huge success and has increased the amount of waste material that is recycled. The Council has located communal food waste bins on estates, which are emptied regularly.
Around 30% of material in the average rubbish bin is food waste, so recycling your food waste reduces the amount of waste that is sent to an incinerator.
Instead, the food waste is sent to an anaerobic digestion facility outside London where it is used as fuel to generate electricity.
Joanna Camadoo-Rothwell, Labour’s candidate in the Vincent Square Ward by-election on 27th February, says:
“We all want to make our contribution to a more sustainable future, and the Council’s food waste recycling service gives everyone the opportunity to ensure that their food waste is put to very good use.”
This by-election has been caused by the sad death of Councillor Gillian Arrindell, the first Labour Councillor for Vincent Square Ward, who was elected in May 2022.
Joanna is continuing Gillian’s fine example of taking up residents’ concerns and getting things done for the local community. She lives locally and knows how to get things sorted for local people. Vincent Square Ward needs a strong voice for local people. If you vote for her, she won’t let you down.”
