Joanna Camadoo-Rothwell, Labour’s candidate in the Vincent Square by-election on Thursday 27th February, is taking up Maunsell Street residents’ concerns about rubbish dumping by unlawful Airbnb short-term tenants at Astral House, at the corner of Maunsel Street and Regency Street.
Residents say, “Astral House, a block of approximately 10 flats, has been dumping rubbish onto the street for the last 2 or 3 years. We are lucky having two collections on a Monday and Friday however this usually occurs the day after collection. We have had help from Veolia at the Page Street depot who have sign posted the area, even opposite the main entrance door for the last year with no improvement. At least three of the flats are occupied by unlawful Airbnb short-term visitors.”
Following the reports, the Short-Term Lettings Team is contacting the freeholders of the block, Highdorn, to urge them to take legal action against the leaseholders who allow their flats to be used as short-term Airbnb lets. We have also asked the Refuse Team to contact Highdorn to make better arrangements for rubbish storage.
This by-election has been caused by the sad death of Councillor Gillian Arrindell, the first Labour Councillor for Vincent Square Ward, who was elected in May 2022.
Joanna Camadoo-Rothwell, Labour’s candidate in the Vincent Square by-election on Thursday 27th February, is continuing Gillian’s fine example of taking up residents’ concerns and getting things done for the local community.
Joanna Camadoo-Rothwell, said:
“I live locally and know how to get things sorted for local people. Conservative Councillors have ignored residents’ concerns for too long. We need a strong voice for local people and if you vote for me, I won’t let you down.”
GOOD NEWS UPDATE
The Refuse Team say:
“We have sent a meeting request to Highdorn, the Astral House freeholders/managing agent, to discuss their waste services and currently waiting for their availability. Once confirmed we will review the service and make changes if necessary. Meanwhile, local depots have been tasked to continue their monitoring and clear dumped waste. Local City Inspectors have been made aware of this issue who will conduct educational and enforcement actions as necessary.”
FURTHER UPDATE
We are working closely with Maunsel Street residents, one of whom says:
“Spoke to and wrote to the Highdorn Manager who has forwarded my request to remove the Key Safes from their property entrance. As a start it would be helpful and make the constant letting more difficult.”
