Community Thursdays

The ‘Community Thursdays’ programme continues each week, with councillors and all levels of staff from across the various housing teams, visiting estates across the city every Thursday.
It is an opportunity for you to tell us about any issues relating to your home, block or estate. On the 1st June we visited the Vincent Street/ Page Street area and Bennett House.

Grosvenor Hall Update

The refurbishment of Grosvenor Hall is finally complete and is now ready for community use.

I will be holding a monthly ‘Coffee & Cake’/Surgery session on the second Thursday of each month, starting on the 13th July at Grosvenor Hall from 17.00 to 19.00.
I will also be holding at the same venue, a Vincent Square Ward (VS) Women’s Group, on the third Thursday of each month beginning on the 20th of July from 17.00 – 19.00.

Hide Tower

I also hold a monthly councillor surgery at Hide Tower on the first Thursday of each month, the next one being the 3rd of August at 17.30 to 18.30.

The Abbey Centre

The Abbey Centre have relaunched their Hot Meals Service for homeless people and rough sleepers. I will be providing support and advice there once or twice a month.

Time: Wednesdays 6pm – 8pm

Also at the Abbey Centre, I attended the 15th June, the formal opening of the Lemon Pip Garden which is now complete and open to users of the Abbey Centre.

Millbank Estate will be beginning their Warm Hub/Lunch Club in conjunction with Age UK for Millbank residents in August.

As a Disability Champion, I am working with council officers to organise an open day at Queen Mother’s Sports Centre, for those with disabilities and carers. The day will be geared towards finding out what facilities there are for those with disabilities and how the Centre has become more accessible. If you would like to be updated about when this will take place, please contact me by email at garrindell@westminster.gov.uk.

Food Waste

The food waste recycling collection service is in place in Vincent Square ward.
Since around 30% of household waste is food waste, using this service is an important way of reducing your climate impact. The food waste is sent for anaerobic digestion outside London, a process which saves carbon emissions compared to putting food waste in the rubbish. Cycle Hangars

More secure cycle storage is being rolled out in Vincent Square ward and across Westminster. Use this link to find a map of all secure cycle storage in your area or register your interest in having one installed in your area.

Voter ID and Postal Votes

The UK government has introduced a new requirement that voters need to show photo ID when voting at a polling station at elections. This will apply from Thursday 4 May 2023.
However if you apply for a postal vote you will not require voter ID: application for a postal vote

I hold regular councillor surgeries for ward residents. The next surgery is at Hide Tower Hall, Regency Street on August 3rd at 5.30pm. No appointment necessary.

You can contact me via email here.

Please keep safe, stay well and look after yourself and your neighbours.

With best wishes,

Cllr Gillian Arrindell
