Empty shops on Edgware Road
Empty shops on Edgware Road

We attended a Hyde Park Estate Association meeting on 9th May where Kay Buxton of Marble Arch BID led a discussion about the Edgware Road.

Residents raised many concerns about the need to improve the shops, restaurants and environment along Edgware Road.

We are taking forward the following questions and action points raised by residents:

  1. Community spaces needed where residents can meet and organise events
  2. Poorly presented commercial waste along Edgware Road is a constant problem
  3. Better lighting is needed in Burwood Place/Norfolk Crescent where car break-ins are common
  4. Continued pigeon feeding at the corner of Sussex Gardens/Edgware Road – can a hawk be used to deter/clear the pigeons and action taken against the man responsible for feeding the pigeons?
  5. Stronger police action needed to move on the professional beggars on Edgware Road
  6. There are too many vacant shops and too many nail bars, chemists and money change bureaux. We need a strategy for restoring the quality of the retail/restaurant uses along Edgware Road.
  7. Speed cameras are needed along Edgware Road to stop it being used as a ‘race track’
  8. The bus stand north of Hyde Park is an eyesore. Can it be removed/relocated?
  9. There was a previous scheme for the Marble Arch island site linking it to the park. What is its current status?

We are determined to bring about real improvements to Edgware Road over the coming months and years.
