Your choice in Hyde Park Ward – Why 3 votes for Labour makes sense on 5th May

As we come to the end of the City Council election campaign, we would like to share some of the key issues we have picked after speaking to thousands of residents since we launched our campaign in Hyde Park Ward over a year ago.

Council election campaigns always bring up national, as well as local concerns – and this election has been no different.

Locally, our campaign of ‘getting things done’ for Hyde Park Ward residents has certainly struck a chord. Residents on the Hyde Park Estate, in the Star Street area and around Paddington Basin have all told us that they appreciate the quick, efficient and positive service they have been getting from their Labour candidates.

Whether it is getting rubbish picked up, fixing broken street lights or helping to get overdue housing repairs done, residents deserve a first-class service – and this is what we have aimed to provide. As one resident told us:

“You are the only ones in all my years of living here that have ever acted on something that I have requested.  Thank you.  As a result, I am on this occasion changing my vote.  All three of you will have my support.  Action like you took deserves recognition.”

On the national stage, there is no doubt that there is huge dissatisfaction with Boris Johnson from life-long Conservatives, many of whom will be voting Labour on 5th May or staying at home. We cannot print some of the language used by former Conservative voters about Johnson.

So many people really do want to teach the Prime Minister a lesson. ‘Floating voters’ are coming our way after working out that Labour is best placed to beat the Conservatives in Hyde Park ward.

Finally, many residents do believe that it is time for change in Westminster. For many, the £6 million Marble Arch Mound disaster was the ‘last straw’. How could so much money be wasted on a failed project when it could have been much better spent on more police on the streets and residents’ other top priorities.

The Conservatives have been in charge for so long they have become complacent, often taking residents for granted. If nothing else, the Labour campaign in Hyde Park has attacked that Conservative complacency and entitlement head on.

On 5th May residents will be able to deliver their verdict on Boris Johnson’s Westminster Conservatives and Labour’s positive local alternative in Hyde Park ward and the rest of Westminster.

It has been a privilege to serve you for the past year as Labour Candidates. All we ask is the opportunity to serve you as your Councillors.
