Westminster City Council’s Labour administration has approved the next phase of the Ebury Bridge regeneration, which will deliver 334 new homes, with nearly 75% affordable, making it one of the most significant council-led housing projects in Westminster. The new homes will be high-quality and sustainably designed, supporting the council’s commitment to tackling the climate emergency while delivering genuinely affordable housing.

Alongside the reprovision of 198 social rent homes, the Labour administration’s Truly Affordable Housing Strategy increased the number of new council homes for social rent from 41 proposed under the Conservatives to 175 across the entire scheme.

This strengthened offer secured overwhelming backing from residents, with 91% supporting the plans in the confirmatory ballot, and helped unlock more than £40 million in funding from the GLA.

One year on from the completion of 226 new homes, phase 1 of the regeneration has already shown what this approach can achieve. Phase 2 will build on this success, delivering high-quality new homes alongside wider benefits for the community.

The plans include improved public spaces, better pedestrian connections through the estate, and the restoration of the Ebury Bridge Road retail parade, supporting longstanding local businesses while creating space for new independent shops, community supermarkets and cafés.

Councillor Ellie Ormsby, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Renters, said:

“Ebury Bridge shows what Labour in Westminster is delivering — hundreds of genuinely affordable and sustainable homes, including a significant increase in new council homes for social rent. By putting affordability, sustainability and residents first, we are ensuring local people can continue to live and thrive in our city.”

With approval now in place, the council will move towards the next stage of delivery, with construction expected to begin next year, subject to the necessary building safety approvals.
