Short-term letting at a flat in Edric House on Page Street has been reported for investigation to Westminster Council’s Housing Team by the Vincent Square Labour Action Team. The Council’s Housing Team said they would make immediate investigations with the leaseholder to stop this unauthorised letting.

Short-term letting may be good for tourists, but it damages the local community by the constant chopping and changing of visitors, often many times a week, as well as increasing noise, generating more rubbish and general disturbance. Short-term lettings also reduce the number of homes available for local people and pushes up rents for everyone.

The flat is advertised on a short-term letting website,

“Located less than 1 km from Westminster Abbey and a 14-minute walk from Victoria Train Station in the centre of London, it provides accommodation with free WiFi and free private parking. The apartment is composed of 2 bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, and 1 bathroom. A flat-screen TV is featured.”

Joanna Camadoo-Rothwell, Labour’s candidate in the Vincent Square by-election, said:

“Short-term letting of former Council property is against the terms of the lease and is forbidden by the Council. The Council has a team in the Housing Department that investigates all reports of short-term letting on Council estates. You can contact them at housing.enquiries@westminster.gov.uk
