Fiona Parker is Labour’s new candidate for the West End by-election on Thursday September 19. She has been selected to replace Jessica Toale, who won a surprise victory for Labour in Bournemouth West in the general election.
A Westminster resident of more than 25 years, Fiona was a Daily Mirror
writer and editor for 29 years. Before that she was a publicist at Peter Gabriel’s world music and arts festival Womad. She remains active in community arts.
Born and raised in Durham, Fiona witnessed first-hand how Margaret Thatcher’s Conservative policies decimated local communities and it was this that first sparked her interest in politics.
Since accepting voluntary redundancy from the Mirror in March, Fiona has been a dedicated activist, campaigning for Labour in the local, mayoral and general elections.
She was a was a key member of Rachel Blake’s general election campaign team and is continuing her work in Westminster as a part of the West End Action Team with Rachel, and our Councillors Patrick Lilley and Paul Fisher.
She has been speaking to residents about vital local issues, such as nuisance e-bike dumping, crime and anti-social behaviour and noise pollution.
She is passionate about social justice and empowering communities to have a voice on the priorities that matter most to them.
“I am excited to keep speaking to voters during this campaign, “ says Fiona. “If I’m fortunate enough to be elected it will be a privilege to continue the work of my predecessor Jess Toale and join Patrick and Paul to represent the residents of this vibrant and unique community.”
