Russian Embassy in London
Russian Embassy in London

Cities across Europe, including in Lithuania and Albania, have shown solidarity with the people of Ukraine who are suffering under Russian bombardment in this horrendous war of President Putin’s making by renaming roads in their city in honour.

Westminster Labour have written repeatedly to Transport for London and to Westminster City Council calling for urgent action to be taken to rename the section of Bayswater Road in front of the Russian Embassy in solidarity with Ukraine. The section of Bayswater Road between Palace Court and Ossington Street opposite the Embassy does not have any property addresses so a change would have no impact on local residents or businesses – but would send a strong message to the Russian government’s representatives in London that our residents stand with the people of Ukraine.

Labour have suggested that this new road take the name ‘Kyiv Road’, mirroring the nearby Moscow Road, but would be open to suggestions from the local residents and London’s Ukrainian community.
