Labour Westminster opens new Community Hub in Pimlico, bringing old library back into community use.

Labour Westminster is delighted to celebrate the official launch of the Rampayne Street Community Hub in Pimlico.

This former library which, under the Conservatives was rented out to an estate agent, had been brought back into community use. Opposite Pimlico Station and the Bessborough Family Hub, the site is part of the Lillington Garden Estate and aims to serve people living within a 15‑minute walk, primarily in the Vincent Square and Pimlico wards.

Following the Pimlico Community Conversations, and consultation with over 1000 residents and local voluntary sector organisations, it was clear that residents wanted more community space in the area. We heard that residents wanted a welcoming community space, youth opportunities, accessible advice and support, healthy and wellbeing support and inclusion for people with disabilities.

This is a new space where residents can drop in, whether they are looking for support from the Council or a voluntary organisation, an opportunity to take part in a health and wellbeing activity, or to connect with their neighbours.

This Hub was co designed with over 900 local residents, in partnership with voluntary organisations and service providers across Pimlico through workshops, door-knocking, street engagement and open conversations.

Working with excellent organisations like Bessborough Family Hub, Make-it-Happen, Abbey Centre, Community Champions, WAES, GreenerMillbank, The New Normal and many others – this will be a place where you can drop in for support, to meet other people or if you’re not sure where else to go.

This is the 6th community hub that has been opened by Labour. Other community hubs are located at Charing Cross and Victoria Libraries, The Exchange at Ernest Harriss House, run by North Paddington Foodbank,

Lilestone Street Communuty Hub, and The Brunel Happy Hub in partnership with Happy Lizzy Event Planning.

Cllr Concia Albert, Cabinet Member for Communities said

“I am so pleased that we have opened our 6th Community Hub in Westminster, making good on our manifesto pledge to open more community spaces where people can go for support from the council and voluntary sector organisations”
