Westminster City Council has agreed a new ‘last mile’ walking delivery system with Amazon in Paddington, Marylebone and St John’s Wood, which will allow Amazon’s delivery vans to park for up to 4 hours on single yellow lines, to carry out deliveries on foot, within a mile radius from the parked vans.
The new walking delivery system follows a successful trial in the West End which resulted, on average, in,
- 154 vans removed from the roads per month
- 268 fewer vehicle stops per day, and
- a reduction of 26 van kms travelled per day in Westminster.
Now three additional zones (B, C and F) with three further delivery vans will provide ‘last mile’ walking deliveries in Marylebone, St John’s Wood and Paddington, starting in late March.
The parking permit will allow the Amazon delivery vans to park on single yellow lines only. There are also conditions attached to ensure the delivery vans don’t cause an obstruction or a nuisance. During the first three months the new system will be monitored and amended if necessary.
