Bayswater Update

General Election

We’d like to introduce our new representative for Kensington and Bayswater in Parliament, Joe Powell MP. Joe is currently setting up his parliamentary office, however if you’d like to get in touch with him his email is: joe.powell.mp@parliament.uk. We look forward to working with Joe going forward.

We’d again like to reiterate our thanks to Karen Buck for her years of service to our community and wish her well in her new endeavours outside of Parliament.

Notting Hill Carnival

August will of course see the Notting Hill Carnival return. If you’re a resident on the route, you can request a free garden cleaning service via the following link: https://www.westminster.gov.uk/notting-hill-carnival/advice-westminster-residents/garden-clearance-service.

If you would like to get in touch with the team at the council responsible for overseeing the carnival weekend, you can do so by calling 0207 641 2390 or emailing carnival@westminster.gov.uk.

Queensway Cycling Movement Strategy

The consultation on the Cycling Movement Strategy Phase 2 Queensway Scheme began on the 8th July for a 3 week period, ending on 29th July 2024. A website, https://cmsqueensway.commonplace.is/ , has been set up providing information about the proposed scheme and includes an online survey form for you to leave your comments. Alternatively, you can email your comments to cmsphase2@fmconway.co.uk clearly stating ‘Queensway’ in the subject line.

Gloucester Terrace

After raising the issue of speeding and pedestrian safety on Gloucester Terrace as it leads onto the Westway, we are delighted that FM Conway are now consulting on a scheme to introduce zebra crossings.

The consultation lasts until 30th July; please give any feedback to gloucesterterracezebra@fmconway.co.uk.

Garway Road

Cllr Small-Edwards met with the leadership of College Park School along with Cllr Hug and Cllr Dimoldenberg to discuss issues the school are having with congestion at drop-off and pick-up times. Marshalls are now visiting the school daily and we are working with the council and TfL to secure long-term solutions to the issue.

Bayswater Residents Association

Cllr Small-Edwards was delighted to attend BRA’s Annual General Meeting, held at the aforementioned College Park School, alongside representatives from the committee and the police where he gave an update on local priorities and took questions from residents.

Newton Road

We are glad to have helped a housing association tenant to move property after suffering from noise pollution in a previous property.

Gloucester Terrace

We are happy to have helped a resident in convincing the housing association which owned the neighbouring property to agree to cut overgrown weeds which were spilling over.

Old Dairy Flats 1- 4 Chapel Side

After repeated breaking of the rules around this  building site, Maggie asked  council officers to intervene.  The following was sent to residents:

After my colleague visited site yesterday and a phone call from myself, the contractor has apologised for all the issues on site…please rest assured that he has had the proverbial book thrown at him.  He will be issuing a written apology today.  It was made quite clear that WE are the local AUTHORITY, and not him. … We will be monitoring the site more often in the near future, making sure they adhere to the rules.

Peabody Housing Association

A homeless woman got in touch with Maggie.  Peabody had offered her a flat in Bayswater.  After signing the contract she was told that the flat was not ready but would be ready in a few weeks. As she had already signed a contract she was told she could not apply for any other flats. Six months later the flat was still not ready and the homeless woman, who was sofa surfing had been asked to leave.  After Maggie contacted Peabody the homeless woman was offered a different flat which she happily accepted and has now moved into.

Lime Bikes Westbourne Park Villas

A resident wrote:

Please find attached photos of the Western end of Westbourne Park Villas (and into Westbourne Park Road) this morning outside the Westbourne pub whilst safely trying to safely get my 89 year old Mum towards the bus stop…

After reporting this to Lime we swiftly received the following reply:

Many thanks for flagging this.  I have now marked these vehicles for urgent retrieval and a ranger will remove them shortly.
