Council saves £1.2 million a year through new parking app
A new multi-app parking scheme introduced by Westminster Council has secured a cost-cutting deal for residents as operating costs shift to consumers, saving taxpayers £1.2million a year and unlocking new funds to improve local transport links.
Tackling Rough Sleeping and Homelessness
Westminster Council has been given an additional £2.35 million by the Labour Government to help it tackle rough sleeping and temporary accommodation. Over recent years we have experienced an enormous rise in Temporary Accommodation costs due to the housing crisis. In addition to Government grant, the Council invests over £8m into tackling rough sleeping and last year’s Temporary Accommodation bill was over £66m as more people were made homeless due to rising private sector rents.
Animal Welfare Action
A woman who ran a dog walking and boarding business has been banned from owning or being involved with dogs for ten years. An investigation led by the RSPCA and involving Westminster City Council’s animal welfare team and local police found evidence of dogs being mistreated in her care.
Council Emissions fall by 34%
Westminster City Council has published its second Climate Emergency Progress Report which shows that Council emissions have fallen by 34% since 2018/19 – including a 13% reduction in the past year alone – while city-wide emissions have dropped by 17% since 2017.
