Labour’s Maida Vale Councillors are proud to announce the redevelopment of Park Lodge, a disused building in Paddington Recreation Ground, into much-needed specialist housing for adults with learning disabilities and autism.
The scheme, led by Labour Westminster Council, will transform the derelict site into two high-quality, self-contained studio flats, complete with communal areas and dedicated staff support. The new homes will provide a safe, comfortable, and accessible living environment specifically tailored to the needs of neurodivergent residents.
This investment is part of Westminster Labour’s wider strategy to deliver more inclusive housing and support services across the city. Park Lodge will help rehouse residents currently living in Elmfield Way, ahead of the future redevelopment of that site for affordable housing.
The redevelopment incorporates autism-friendly design features – such as underfloor heating, soundproofing, and simple spatial layouts – and will include a sensory outdoor garden to support residents’ wellbeing.
Cllr Nafsika Butler-Thalassis, Maida Vale Councillor and Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care, said:
“This project shows what Labour in Westminster is all about -delivering high-quality, inclusive services that meet real needs in our communities.
“Park Lodge will provide a safe and dignified home for residents with learning disabilities and autism, designed around their needs. I’m proud we’re making this happen in Maida Vale and helping create a more compassionate city where everyone can live with support and independence.”
The Park Lodge development has been designed in partnership with NHS professionals and expert consultants, ensuring that the final scheme promotes both mental and physical well-being.
Maida Vale Councillors have campaigned to bring this disused building back into public use and are committed to continuing to deliver projects that put local people first.
