NEWS CASEWORK AND ACTION

Pimlico South Residents’ Survey
As your local Councillors, we are always keen to hear your views on how we’re doing, and what we could do better, as well as your priorities for Pimlico. It would be great if you could fill in our survey. It will only take a few minutes. Click this link to go to the survey.

£1.3 Milllion To Improve Pimlico
It’s great news that Labour Westminster Council has approved over £1.3 million to improve Pimlico including:

  • £1 million: Extension of the High Streets Programme to improve Lupus Street and the surrounding areas.
  • £200,000Community Priorities Programme for health and wellbeing initiatives, including counselling, housing advice, and parent-child activities.
  • £50,000Digital Dash – training young residents for careers in tech.
  • £35,000Helping Hands – support for youth affected by violence.
  • £24,000Green After School Clubs – educational gardening and climate awareness activities at Churchill Gardens.

Pimlico businesses will also benefit from the Council’s borough-wide high street improvement funding. Click here for more information.

Pimlico South Councillor and Lead Member of the Pimlico Programme, Jason Williams, said: “We’ve worked with residents and community groups in Pimlico to find out their concerns and how to tackle them through our improvement plan. We want to see Pimlico progress and improve outcomes and opportunities for local people by developing welcoming spaces, enhancing the appearance of Lupus Street and supporting local organisations.”

Westminster Council’s Private Rented Sector Tenants’ Charter
Around 44% of Westminster households are renting privately. The Charter sets out clear information about what tenants can expect from their landlords, covering important issues such as damp and mould, unlawful evictions, and unfair rent practices. The Charter also highlights how tenants can get help from the Council when problems arise. Click here for more information.

New Repayment Plans For Council Leaseholders With Major Works Bills
As we mentioned in last month’s Action Report, the Council has introduced more generous repayment plans for leaseholders, pioneered by Pimlico South Councillor Liza Begum, Cabinet Member for Housing Services. The Council website now has more details about the plans. If you’ve already entered into a repayment agreement with the Council, you may be able to change to one of the new plans. Just click here to view.

Westminster Council To Bring Back Lifetime Tenancies
Liza Begum, Councillor for Pimlico South and Cabinet Member for Housing Services, is pleased to announce that after consultation about social tenancies, Labour Westminster Council is bringing back lifetime tenancies. Liza said: “The Council will cease offering fixed-term tenancies and instead, offer secure lifetime tenancies to new tenants. This will ensure peace of mind, security and stability for families. Current tenants on flexible, fixed-term tenancies will have the option to convert to a secure lifetime tenancy before their existing tenancy expires. Look out for more information in June when the scheme will be formally launched.”

“No Mow May”
Westminster Council is again taking part in PlantLife’s ‘No Mow May” to support wildlife and biodiversity in our borough. All housing estates will be taking part as well as some open spaces and parks. Click here for more details.

Since the 1930s the UK has lost more than 97 per cent of its wildflower meadows, which are vital for food pollinators like butterflies and bees. Not mowing grass during May and June will allow plant life to grow during this crucial period to feed pollinators throughout the summer months.

Churchill Gardens VE Day Afternoon Tea
What a wonderful afternoon at the Churchill Gardens Residents’ Hall, celebrating VE Day with friends and neighbours! It was really special to see everyone come together, share stories, and enjoy a lovely tea in great company.

A huge thank you to Christina and the Committee for their excellent organisation—everything was beautifully arranged, and the atmosphere was, as always, warm and welcoming. Great to see Darlene from the Lillington Gardens Residents Association and share in the community spirit!

£370,000 Improvements for Queen Mother Sports Centre

Other upgrades include a new immersive workout studio, a revamped gym, upgraded men’s changing room basins, fire safety measures, roof repairs, and better ventilation in the spin studio – all part of the Council’s effort to provide inclusive, high-quality facilities for Westminster residents.
