Paul, Judith and Shamsed – Getting things done for Hyde Park residents

Paul, Judith and Shamsed started our Hyde Park Ward campaign in March 2021, over a year ago, and since then we have been talking and listening to residents everyday about their concerns. We have taken up hundreds of cases with the Council, housing associations, the police and other organisations

We are an effective, hard-working and determined Labour Team and we have been ‘getting things done’ for residents, including:

  • Supporting residents in Sheldon Square and Dudley House in their successful battle against the developers who wanted to build a 20-storey tower on the Travis Perkins site.
  • Forcing the Council to address illegal rubbish dumping at ‘hot spots’ across the ward, including Bathurst Street, Transept Street, Sussex Gardens and Star Street
  • Getting the developers to remove scaffolding at Cambridge Court in Edgware Road that had been there for six years. After years of inaction our efforts got the scaffolding removed within a few months.
  • Fighting plans by the Church Commissioners to close the Connaught Square NHS surgery
  • Persuading the Council to move two benches from Southwick Street which had been attracting drug-dealers and prostitutes for many years.
  • Getting Notting Hill Genesis to do essential repairs to houses in Star Street and St Michael’s Street.
  • Exposing the huge of waste of Council money represented by the £6 million Marble Arch Mound

Since March 2021, we have kept residents in touch with our action and encouraged residents to let us know how we can help them. We have

  • Delivered six editions of our newsletter, ‘Hyde Park Matters’ to every house and flat in the Ward – that’s 30,000 newsletters going to every corner of the Ward
  • Sent monthly e-mail ‘Action Reports’ with details of all our local activities and campaigns
  • Posted daily Facebook and Twitter stories updating residents on the local issues we are taking up on behalf of local people.
  • Written to our local newspaper, ‘Westminster Extra’, every week with details of the issues that are of top concern to residents

Your three Hyde Park Ward Labour Candidates

Md Shamsed Chowdhury has lived and worked in Westminster since 2016. He is experienced in the business and hospitality industries and keen to use his knowledge to support young people into work. Shamsed is also a volunteer with a homeless charity in Westminster. He speaks English, Arabic, Hindi, Urdu and Bengali and is keen to support all residents in the ward to ensure everyone has a decent home and feels safe on our streets.

Paul Dimoldenberg has been a Queen’s Park Labour Councillor for nearly 25 years and was a Harrow Road Councillor for 8 years before that. He is a former Leader of the Labour Group and led the Team that uncovered the ‘Homes for Votes’ and ‘15p Cemeteries’ scandals. Originally from Manchester, he has lived on Marylebone Road since the 1970s. Paul’s knowledge of the Council has enabled the Hyde Park Labour Action Team to ‘get things done’ for local residents.

Judith Southern grew up in rural Cumbria and trained to be a nursery nurse. She then worked in West Yorkshire as a bus driver before starting nurse training. She worked at Paddington Green Children’s Hospital and has lived in Hyde Park ward since 1985. Before retiring she worked at Trinity Hospice at Clapham Common where Judith says she felt privileged to be able to give the best palliative care possible.

Our priorities for Hyde Park Ward

  • Freeze Council Tax for all residents until 2024
  • Keep our area safe with more police to tackle crime
  • Stop illegal rubbish dumping with fines for offenders
  • Put residents first in the planning system
  • Stand up for better NHS services against cuts and sell-offs
  • Deliver cleaner air, and greener homes and transport
  • Stop the financial waste – no more £6m Marble Arch Mound disasters!

Labour is the only credible challenger to the Conservatives in Hyde Park Ward, coming second in the 2018 Council elections and 2021 London elections.

If you are a Liberal Democrat or Green supporter, please consider lending your vote to Labour at this election so that we can get rid of Boris Johnson’s complacent and arrogant Westminster Conservatives.

Don’t forget, you have three votes in the Council elections on 5th May.

Use your three votes to vote for Shamsed, Paul and Judith.
