Queen’s Park Labour Councillors have repeated their call for strong action to be taken by the Council against skip-hire companies Powerday and Simpson’s who regularly use Fifth and Sixth Avenues to ‘rat-run’ through the area, damaging the road way and making loud crashing noises as the lorries bounce off the speed humps.
Residents say
“In recent weeks I’ve seen (& heard!) several skip lorries using Fifth Avenue as some kind of short cut ‘rat run’. They were from two different companies – Powerday & Simpsons. The shocking state of disrepair that the road surface of Fifth Avenue is now in, is undoubtedly due to the continued abuse it’s receiving from these lorries. I narrowly avoided a potentially very nasty accident when cycling over the loose cobbles the other day!”
