The Porchester Centre has marked its 100th anniversary as a cornerstone of local life, welcoming over 420,000 visitors each year and boasting more than 4,000 members.
Thanks to £6 million of investment by Labour Westminster Council, the much-loved venue has been future-proofed with sustainability upgrades and restored historic features, and upgrades to the gym and to the main 30-metre main pool and teaching pool.
A range of discounts ensures the centre is accessible to all — with free swimming for people on benefits, those over 60, and children. And for the first time, labour run Westminster has introduced free swimming for children and their parents/carers during school holidays.
Councillor Cara Sanquest, Cabinet Member for Communities, said:
“I am delighted to mark the centenary of the iconic Porchester Centre in the heart of Bayswater. It has played a vital role in the cultural and community life of Westminster for the past 100 years.
Over recent years, Westminster City Council has invested £6 million pounds in improvements to the building, ensuring the Centre remains fit for the future and continues to be a vibrant community facility for generations to come”
