In partnership with Veolia, Westminster Council has won the Local Authority Recycling Initiative award at the 2024 Awards for Excellence in Recycling and Waste Management for the innovative Community Mobile Recycling Centre.

Our Community Mobile Recycling Centre project started in 2023 and makes recycling more accessible for residents living on estates and in mansion blocks without easy access to traditional Household Reuse and Recycling Centres.

The project has been a resounding success, with over 70% of donated items being diverted from waste and over £200,000 being generated in social value.

Councillor Paul Dimoldenberg, Cabinet Member for City Management and Air Quality, said:

“The Community Mobile Recycling Centre is a great initiative which has made recycling more accessible and convenient for local residents. This award is a fantastic result for our waste teams and all the work they do to make Westminster a greener and cleaner place to live.”

The next Community Mobile Recycling Centre will be held on Saturday 1 June, from 10am to 4pm, in Tamplin Mews Gardens, W9 3SP.
