On Friday, we were proud to break ground on Site A of the Church Street regeneration – a major milestone for the community and a significant step toward delivering the future local people deserve.

This phase of the regeneration will deliver 430 new homes, the first phase of the wider 1,750-home Church Street masterplan. Crucially, 50% will be affordable, in line with our Truly Affordable Housing Strategy, and 70% of those affordable homes will be for social rent – helping residents on our housing waiting list secure the stable homes they need.

But this project is about more than housing. A new, expanded library will offer more space for learning, creativity and digital access, ensuring it remains a vital community hub for all ages. New commercial space and improved market facilities will also support local businesses and entrepreneurs, strengthening Church Street’s local economy.

Local residents have played a central role in shaping the plans, influencing everything from building heights to the design of public spaces. This is a development being built with the community, reflecting its character and priorities.

We are grateful for the support of the Greater London Authority, and were pleased to be joined by Deputy Mayor of London Tom Copley on the day to mark this important moment.

Breaking ground at Site A represents real progress – not just new buildings, but new opportunities and a stronger future for Church Street.

Cllr Ellie Ormsby, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Renters: “Church Street deserves high-quality homes and facilities that reflect the ambition and strength of its community. This development shows what we can achieve when we work together — delivering genuinely affordable homes, investing in local services, and building a future that puts residents first.”
