Today is a landmark day for Labour in Westminster, as the council celebrates the completion of two significant 100% affordable housing developments – Westmead in Westbourne ward and Turing House in Little Venice – delivering 85 genuinely affordable new homes across the city.

At Westmead, the council has completed 65 new homes, all of them affordable. This includes 34 new council homes for social rent and 31 London Living Rent homes, offering stability and security for families and key workers who would otherwise struggle to afford to live in the city. Crucially, this scheme was transformed from a development under the previous Conservative administration intended largely for private sale into a 100% affordable project.

The scheme also prioritises local residents through a Local Lettings Plan, helping people with strong roots in the area to remain part of their community.

Earlier in the day, Labour councillors also celebrated the completion of Turing House on Adpar Street. This development delivers 20 one-bedroom, social rent homes for residents aged over 60, providing safe, secure and adaptable accommodation that supports independent living close to friends, neighbours and support networks. The scheme includes a rooftop terrace and improvements to nearby green space, extending benefits beyond the building itself.

With more than 6,000 people on Westminster’s housing waiting list, today’s completions matter. They show that, under Labour leadership, the council is making clear choices to prioritise social rent, London Living Rent and genuinely affordable homes that will serve Westminster residents for generations to come.

Cllr Adam Hug, Leader of Westminster City Council, said:
A good home is the foundation on which people can build happy, healthy lives. By choosing to deliver 100% affordable housing at Westmead and Turing House, we’ve shown that our priority is fairness, long-term security and doing what’s right for Westminster communities.

Cllr Ellie Ormsby, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Renters, said:
Today shows what Labour’s Fairer Westminster ambition looks like in practice – genuinely affordable homes, built to an incredibly high standard. From families and key workers to older residents, these new homes will make a real difference to people’s lives for many years to come.
