The £6 million Marble Arch Mound disaster sums up everything that is wrong with Boris Johnson’s Westminster Conservatives.
Not only did they ignore the many local residents who objected to the foolish proposal to erect a fake mound at Marble Arch, but they wasted £6 million of public money on the temporary sixth month development.
That £6 million could have been better spent on all manner of practical proposals to improve life for residents. For example, the £6 million could have been spent:
- installing CCTV cameras to catch illegal rubbish dumpers
- employing more police to crack down on crime
- reopening the youth clubs closed as part of the austerity cuts
- building new Council homes for residents stuck in expensive temporary accommodation
Every four years, residents have the chance to sack those running the Council. There has never been a more obvious time for Westminster residents to exercise their power. When things go wrong, those making the decisions should carry the can.
On 5th May, Westminster residents will have 6 million reasons to sack Boris Johnson’s Conservatives.
