In partnership with Amazon, Westminster City Council has introduced a new, sustainable approach to deliveries in the West End —zero-emission, walking freight.
Instead of relying on large delivery vehicles, parcels are now transported on foot via trolleys, significantly reducing traffic, emissions, and improving air quality.
With 50,000 parcels already delivered in just 10 weeks, the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, putting us on track to deliver our Fairer Westminster commitment of being a net-zero city by 2040.
Councillor Paul Dimoldenberg, Cabinet Member for City Management and Air Quality, said:
“Delivery demands from businesses and residents throughout the year can result in more traffic and higher emissions in the busiest areas of the city, but Amazon’s new scheme ensures packages are still delivered on time but in a more environmentally friendly way. The initial results look very promising after a busy festive period so long may that continue. Walking freight is helping to reduce disruption and lower emissions aligning with the council’s net-zero targets and Freight Deliveries and Services Strategy and Action Plan.”
