Labour-run Westminster Council has launched two new Play Streets on Kilravock Street and Ashmore Road, delivering on a key manifesto commitment to expand and improve the Play Streets Programme in Westminster.
Play Streets are resident and parent-led projects that temporarily limit traffic on streets, giving children safe space to play and neighbours a chance to connect, with local volunteers managing the road closures. Play Streets will regularly be closed to traffic in the evenings and weekends to make more, safe, outdoor space for local children.
They promote health, well-being, and community cohesion.
Cllr Cara Sanquest, Cabinet Member for Communities, said:
“Play Streets are a fantastic example of communities shaping their own neighbourhoods. By delivering these new Play Streets in Queen’s Park, we’re fulfilling a clear Labour pledge to back communities who want to create safe spaces for children, families and neighbours to get together, giving children the freedom to play safely where they live.”
Any resident can apply to start a one-off street play session or a permanent play street in their area, and we hope others will get involved.
