After years of unfunded promises by the previous Government, Westminster Labour welcomes today’s announcement by the Government that it will provide up to £50 million to fund the next steps in the redevelopment of St Mary’s Hospital.
Labour Councillor Adam Hug, Leader of Westminster Council, said:
“This will really boost efforts to explore and secure additional sources of funding to cover the main construction costs, unlocking economic potential and speeding up delivery.
This is a huge step towards replacing the Victorian-era buildings at St Mary’s and great news for Westminster where residents will benefit from new, improved facilities at London’s busiest major trauma centre, which treats over a million patients each year.
The Council is proud to be working with the Trust in a joint taskforce, including our MPs and a range of other stakeholders and experts, to deliver a new 850-bed hospital and world-leading research centre – securing the best care and new jobs for Westminster and beyond.”
