Westminster Labour Councillors have welcomed the news that Age UK is now offering a free taxi transport service to local vaccination centres for anyone over 50 in the Boroughs of Westminster, Kensington & Chelsea, Hammersmith & Fulham, Hillingdon, Harrow and Brent.  This service will run for the next month, up to the end of March 2021, and will focus on supporting people in the 50 plus age group from BAME communities.

“It’s fantastic news that Age UK is now providing a free taxi service to vaccination sites, in collaboration with Uber, for anyone over 50. We have been asking Westminster Council to fund a service like this, but they have refused repeatedly saying that it wasn’t needed.”

“But a great number of people aged over 70 in Westminster (perhaps as many as 25%) remain unvaccinated and most live in the poorest areas of the borough which are also the furthest away from the vaccination sites. I hope at the end of March when this offer ends, Westminster Council will provide the funds to extend it for Westminster residents who need it.”
