Over recent days we have been contacted by students, parents and teachers across Westminster regarding the government’s appalling handling of the A-Level exam results fiasco, which has arisen as consequence of Ofqual’s unfair algorithm.

Many students are rightly concerned about their future and feel completely let down by a system which has disproportionately benefited those from privileged backgrounds and elite educational institutions. Many young people from disadvantaged backgrounds have seen their A-Level results downgraded simply because they are from a state school or larger class size.

"The government had six months to prepare for this, watched chaos unfold after the Scottish A-Level results were released, and still felt no need to act" Shadow Education spokesperson Tim Roca

The government must act immediately to restore the confidence of young people, parents, and teachers. Universities must honour offers to students as grades are revised and government must provide the funding needed to do so, and ensure that no student is treated unfairly as a result of this fiasco.
