Buried deep in the papers for Westminster Council’s Audit and Performance committee this week was this example of Westminster Council’s ‘efficiency’, which led to the Council being fined £7,350 by the Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman:

“However, it should be noted that one payment from GPH, Housing Solutions Service totalled £7,350. This was a large payment owing to the fact that during the course of the LGSCO investigation they established that a family was living in unsuitable temporary accommodation for nearly 4 years and therefore awarded £350 for distress and time and trouble in pursuing the complaint and £150 for each month living in unsuitable temporary accommodation (£150 x 47 months = £7,050)”
