Campaigners and Westminster Labour are celebrating the success of their campaign as Westminster Council unanimously declared a Climate Emergency that committed to delivering a carbon neutral Council by 2040 and to work with partners to make Westminster a carbon-neutral city by 2040.

As the result of a Labour amendment that was unanimously accepted the Council also committed to becoming a zero-carbon council (not using off-sets) by 2050, to hold climate assemblies to mobilise Westminster’s communities for climate action, to sign the UK 100 clean energy pledge and take action to reduce food miles from food served on council properties.

Labour Shadow Cabinet Member for Environment Cllr Pancho Lewis said “We are delighted that the Council has listened to local campaigners and made some ambitious commitments to tackle the climate emergency. We will work constructively with them to help deliver this agenda, while holding them to account to ensure these commitments are met.”
