Queen’s Park Labour Councillors have again called on Westminster Council to order a clean up at the Moberly Sports Centre which opened in 2018 and has been the subject of regular complaints from users about the cleanliness of the changing rooms and pool. Also, some of the changing room lockers are broken and have not been repaired.
“I visited with my son this morning and the centre is extremely dirty, despite only being open for a couple of hours. Mud on the floors of the hallways, discarded food and wrappers across the floor including in the swimming pool areas, obvious dust and dirt throughout, toilets unusable because they’re full of discarded paper towels, blood smeared across the mirrors and sinks in the family changing rooms – yuck. This place clearly hasn’t been properly cleaned in days.
I spoke to the duty manager who blamed the team who had closed the previous evening for not cleaning properly and said he had been too busy to look around the centre for cleanliness because there weren’t enough staff on this morning.
I’m not overly sensitive about cleanliness and recognise that sports centres are high traffic areas where mess will happen, but that does mean that it needs to be cleaned regularly – this place is frankly verging on disgusting at the moment.”
“Six months after I raised concerns about this the state of Moberly Sports Centre is no better.
Floors that haven’t been cleaned in days, litter strewn around the swimming pool, locker doors broken off and not repaired. All this in a centre just a year old.
It’s so disappointing that Westminster has spend £28 million on a brand new facility that Everyone Active can’t seem to maintain.
I’ve cancelled our son’s swimming lessons as of today and in future we will be taking him to Kensington Leisure Centre – really disappointing that we can’t use our local swimming pool and have to go to another borough for our child to swim.”
