Westminster City Council has cancelled its Major Planning Applications committee meeting on 27th August because there are no major planning applications to decide this month. This an unprecedented situation as this is normally a very busy committee dealing with many large scale development projects in the centre of London. But such is the reduction in commercial interest in London due to Brexit, Westminster’s Major Planning Committee will not be meeting this month.
Councillor Geoff Barraclough, Labour’s Planning Spokesperson said:
“The unprecedented decline in planning applications in Westminster is squarely due to this Government’s reckless anti-business obsession with Brexit at all costs. No sensible business can plan for significant, long-term investment in current conditions. We need a thriving economy to build affordable homes, modern office blocks and a regenerated Oxford Street. “
