Labour Westminster Council is proud to be supporting the transformation of Nutford Place as part of the Paddington–Bayswater £10m High Streets Programme. Nutford Place is the principal public square off Edgware Road, but for too long it has been a grey, underused space. Now, thanks to investment and community input, it is set to become a vibrant and welcoming focal point for local people.

Working with leading design teams, three creative themes have been put forward — “Uncovering the Lost River,” “A Local Living Room,” and “Smelling of Roses.” Each proposal reimagines Nutford Place as a space for gathering, play, art, and culture, drawing inspiration from the area’s history and heritage.

Throughout September, local residents and businesses are being invited to take part in workshops and pop-up events to help test and shape the final design. Activities range from community feasts and afterschool play days to interactive pattern-making and art workshops.

Nutford Place is also welcoming Big Sister, a vegan café that has found a home in an otherwise vacant unit through Westminster Council’s Meanwhile One programme, which brings empty spaces back into community use.

.Cllr Geoffrey Barraclough, Cabinet Member for Planning and Economic Development, said:

“Nutford Place has the potential to be a real heart for Edgware Road, a place where residents, visitors and businesses can come together. By working with the community, we can create a space that is greener, safer and more welcoming, and reflects the unique character of this part of Westminster.”

Have your say and help shape the future of Nutford Place by completing the short survey before 29th September: paddington-bayswaterhighstreets.commonplace.is.
