A new Foodbank has opened at the Covent Garden Community Centre in Earlham Street to deal with the economic crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Over recent weeks, the Community Centre has been getting many phone calls requesting assistance. In the past, this would always be from senior citizens, however, now calls are coming from families, single people who have lost their jobs, and homeless people.
The Foodbank say:
“Yesterday, we delivered food packages to 39 vulnerable adults and had 29 people visit the community centre to collect packages, and this was just day one, registration is going through the roof. This is not a “walk in” type of service, everyone must register at www.cgcc.org.uk and food collection is by appointment only.
There are not many businesses within Seven Dials/Covent Garden still in operation, however those that are have been phenomenal in their support with Capco so far being the ones leading the way closely followed by RedBull.
We would be so grateful for any support you can give. Small donations can be made on our website at www.cgcc.org.uk”
