Praed Street

We have again raised this long-running issue with the Parking Team:

“Has any progress been made regarding the taxi problem in Praed Street/Craven Road. Recently I thought road traffic enforcement cameras had been installed and the situation appeared to improve for a few days. However, it’s now as bad as ever and we’re forced to inhale all the exhaust fumes from queueing taxis every time we walk round to the station or do any local shopping. When they’re out in force it only leaves one lane for moving vehicles in Craven Road and ends up creating a traffic jam in Westbourne Terrace for vehicles that want to turn left. The traffic wardens do an excellent job when they’re scheduled to stand outside the Hilton Hotel despite getting verbally and physically abused by the taxi drivers”

The Parking Team say:

“Praed Street (including Craven Hill and London Street) continues to be subject to special enforcement measures with hourly marshal visits being made, during controlled hours.  In the majority of instances, the vehicles are progressing in a line of very slow-moving traffic.  For this reason, and because they are not parked, it is not possible for the marshals to issue PCNs for parking contraventions or the engine idling restriction. A traffic camera has recently been installed by the Council at the location of Praed Street and Eastbourne Terrace, to monitor moving traffic contraventions in relation to the box junction, only.  The Metropolitan Police also have a camera in Praed Street which, according to signage, is for the purpose of crime prevention and public safety.”
