Labour Councillors have mounted a Climate Change challenge to new Westminster Conservative Leader Rachael Robathan.
In a letter to the Council’s new Leader, West End Councillor Pancho Lewis, Labour’s Environment spokesperson, wrote:
“Congratulations again on your selection as Leader of the Conservative Group and subsequently being made Leader of the Council.
I was really pleased to hear climate change was the first issue you mentioned as a priority in your speech yesterday (among others – air quality and rough sleeping, I recall).
Are there any immediate first steps you are intending to take to ensure the Council fulfills its climate commitments following the declaration of an emergency? I would be interested to hear what these might be.
I recently read that the construction industry accounts for 45% of GHG emissions, and an influential Guardian article made the argument that we have to dramatically reduce and, where possible, halt the demolition of buildings, so this area would seem a good place to start.”
