Gloucester Place – Domestic Refuse
We have asked the Refuse Collection Team to take action here
“Increasing amounts of domestic refuse are being dumped on the pavements of Gloucester Place. Some is bagged, some not and few if any attempts seem to be made to separate recyclable form non-recyclable material. Dumpers seem to target the nearest tree or bollard, at any time of day. The result is a filthy street, often strewn with loose items. Council instructions on how to deal with domestic rubbish and when and where to put it out for collection are clear: correctly bagged, on doorsteps (not pavements), early in the day. Much of the rubbish seems to be deposited by the increasing numbers of visitors (Air B&B?). Could the Council please leaflet all properties, repeating these instructions, pointing out penalties for non-compliance and asking for disposal instructions to be permanently displayed in the front hallways of all buildings where apartments are rented short-term.”
The Council’s contract with the Meals on Wheels provider, Sodexo, has officially ended. We have supported residents who argue that any future use should respect residents’ needs given the disruption caused by the volume of vans and large lorries entering this small site.
Farnham House, Blandford Estate
We have asked the Housing Department to fix a light outside Farnham House. Residents say:
“I have phoned the council every week for 6weeks to try and get them to fix a street lamp outside my front door and it’s still not done. I feel very vulnerable as we have a lot of people wandering on our estate doing drugs, so having a light out is quite frightening, and we also pay for the lighting.”
