Contractors causing disturbance with their work on the Chelsea Barracks development recently had their summer working hours extension revoked – thanks to action taken by residents with help from Churchill Labour Councillors.

Residents of Cheylesmore House and the surrounding area were being adversely affected by noise and disturbance from the Chelsea Barracks development following the issuing of an extension to the contractor Multiplex’s working hours.

The extension, issued by Westminster Council, allowed Multiplex to start work at 7am and not finish until 8pm – meaning they could work up to 13 hours a day, sometimes 7 days a week, through the summer months.

What’s more, local residents hadn’t been properly informed or consulted about this extension to the working hours.

With help from Churchill Labour Councillors, the residents affected created a petition, and we brought the issue to the attention of the Council.

As a result, a Council officer met on-site with residents and the contractor to discuss the issue and hear the complaints – and soon afterwards revoked the extension.
