Church Street

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has awarded a grant of almost £1 million to pay for environmental improvements to the Church Street Triangle area.

Shroton Street/Stalbridge Street

We have again asked the Council to clear the rubbish and tackle the drug use outside the former school building which is currently being used as a depot for the Parking Wardens. The Council say:

“The Integrated Street Engagement Unit (ISEU) were deployed to the site this morning. 2 individuals were found sleeping under the stairs at the rear of the college on Stalbridge Street with clear visibility of used needles indicating substance misuse. The Unit engaged with both individuals and details were taken and passed to ISEU outreach services. Turning Point will be making contact with them both today. As regards the site itself, our neighbourhood coordinator has been working with a number of other partners, and the agreed action plan is that the approach should be to try to design out the problems at the location.”

In addition, Council officers were on-site with contractors to agree the works needed. Works will start on Monday, 7th January to include:

  • Bricking up of the under stair voids.
  • Cloister/lean-to structure proving shelter to be removed.
  • New locks will be fitted to the main entrance gates.
  • Provide robust cover to the roof area of the bin store to prevent access
  • Door recess to be enclosed with metal cage (internal push bar to be fitted to permit fire escape egress)
  • We are looking at anti-climb options to deter ingress over the fence.

Bell Street – update

Following our report about a pothole in Bell Street, the Council say:

“The pothole does not meet intervention levels. As you know we only undertake repairs to defects in the highway with a difference of level that is greater than 50mm. However, we have noted that the measurement is 45mm and that the type of defect in question could degrade before the next scheduled inspection. Therefore, I have agreed with the local Inspector that he can mark this up for repair and issue an order for completion within 28 days. He has also marked up another pothole adjacent to this location which is a similar depth.”
