Labour Councillors in Hyde Park and Lancaster Gate Wards are opposing plans to terminate the 94-bus route at Marble Arch as part of the Oxford Street pedestrianisation plans.
As one resident told us, “This will mean those of us coming from west of Marble Arch, and those coming from Lower Regent Street, will no longer have direct bus access to Oxford Street, Oxford Circus and to Regent Street. Those coming from the west will have to walk all the way to Wigmore Street to catch the 139 bus to take them to Oxford Street, Oxford Circus, and then onto Regent Street and Haymarket.”
Another resident said:
“The 94-bus route stopping at Marble Arch is a disaster; how can the Mayor expect someone with disabilities to walk to Wigmore Street and change buses? The 94-bus route is alternative for those using the Central Line and is very popular with tourists staying in Bayswater/Lancaster Gate. It is an important bus if Lancaster Gate underground station is closed.”
And another resident said:
“The 94 is an extremely useful route and we use it frequently. It is great to take a short walk and get on a 94 at Hyde Park Street, all the way to Piccadilly. And the bus would nearly always be quite crowded which proves it is used by many people. If it’s working well, why change it? I would urge you to reconsider this change as it is really inconvenient for many people, especially pensioners, who rely on this bus route.”
Another resident added:
“I am concerned about the worsening bus service from the West End to Bayswater. Some years ago the 390 bus which used to go along the Bayswater road and made a good route to Euston and beyond was diverted from Marble Arch to Victoria. If the bus 94 also terminates at Marble Arch that would worsen the service to nil from Hyde Park Ward to the West End.”
