Bayswater's housing crisis

Bayswater has seen its fair share of housing developments in recent years. But very little has been affordable for local residents struggling to find a home in their own community.
Max Sullivan says: “Westminster Council’s record on new affordable homes is dismal. Conservative Councillors ignored their own rules to allow developers to get away little or no affordable homes in luxury schemes, including at Whiteleys on Queensway. This deeply unpopular development was given the go-ahead despite strong local opposition and even though there are no affordable homes among the 129 flats planned for the site.”
Bayswater is now full of investment properties standing empty, used for Airbnb, or sublet at high rents on short leases.
A Labour-run Westminster council will ensure that new projects by private developers have at least 35% affordable housing, as well as a better deal for private renters, longer tenancies and tackling rogue landlords.
